NEW FOR 2009:
- Redesigned model
For 2009, the second generation Honda Pilot has been completely redesigned. Features new to the Pilot for the 2009 model year include a new generation of Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) on all models, flip-up tailgate glass hatch, standard integrated tow hitch, hill start assist, four child seat tether anchors, active front head restraints, tilt and telescopic steering column, and on the Touring model, an interface dial, Bluetooth hands-free system, and power tailgate.
The new model is also longer, wider and taller than the outgoing model, with a longer wheelbase, and while the engine displacement is unchanged, horsepower rises from 244 to 250, and from 240 lb-ft of torque to 253 lb-ft.
All Pilot models use a 3.5-litre V6 engine that uses VCM to run in six-, three- or four-cylinder mode, depending on power requirements, for increased fuel efficiency. All use a five-speed automatic transmission. The base LX model is available in front-wheel drive; it can be optioned to the all-wheel drive system used on all other models. The AWD system runs primarily in front-wheel but delivers power to the rear wheels upon acceleration, when it detects wheel slip, or when it is manually put into "lock" mode by the driver at speeds below 30 km/h.
Features on the LX models include 17-inch alloy wheels, front and rear air conditioning, automatic headlamps, 60/40 split-folding second- and third-row seats, heated mirrors, cruise control, power windows, rear cargo net, keyless entry, CD/MP3 stereo, variable intermittent wipers, intermittent rear wiper, tinted glass, roof rails, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, integrated trailer hitch, and tire pressure monitoring system.
The EX adds tri-zone automatic climate control, security system, body-colour door handles and mirrors, fog lights, ambient console lighting, conversation mirror, exterior temperature gauge, six-CD stereo with wheel-mounted audio controls, eight-way power driver's seat, and heated front seats.
The EX-L adds reverse camera with rearview mirror display, power sunroof, auto-dimming rearview mirror, XM Satellite Radio, leather-wrapped wheel, four-way power passenger seat, and leather upholstery.
The EX-L RES adds a DVD-based rear-seat entertainment system.
The Touring adds Bluetooth hands-free system, trailer connection wiring, front and rear parking sensors, power tailgate, 115-volt outlet, navigation system, rearview camera, two-position driver's side memory, premium six-CD stereo with USB connection, and heated second-row outboard seats.
